Who we are
2024 marks the tenth anniversary of Sheffield Printmakers. Our inaugural Annual General Meeting took place on 1 April 2014 at the Rutland Arms on Brown Street, Sheffield. Click here to learn more about our history.
The group currently has 37 members, from many backgrounds and spread across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Their work is extraordinary and displays a high level of creativity, professionalism and technical expertise. Members work with a wide range of printmaking techniques including linocut, collagraph, etching and monotype. Some members work with editions of prints, others produce ‘one-off’ pieces which may include other mixed media techniques, and some explore print in 3D forms.
Whilst members have come and gone, many to the professional realm, most of the principles set up by the founding members still inform the operation of Sheffield Printmakers today. We are an open organisation, welcoming anyone who has an interest in printmaking and who agrees with our aims.
Our aims
To promote printmaking in Sheffield and beyond.
To encourage artists in their development of skills and knowledge, and their career as printmakers.
To enable members of the group to exhibit regularly, both locally and nationally.
To provide a forum where artists/printmakers can discuss, exchange ideas and find encouragement and support.
To introduce new artists to the potential of print as a means of producing artwork.
To create a membership that is broad, open, inclusive, developing and growing.
The tasks needed to run the organisation are undertaken by our members on a volunteer basis.
A steering group, also comprised of volunteer members, takes care of all the routine administrative tasks and organises a number of events each year.
Our current steering group consists of:
Chair: Jean Brookes
Secretary: Josephine Pye
Membership Secretary: Barbara Goodchild
Treasurer: Annetta Lambert
Artistic Adviser: Peter York
