We have had a very busy year so far, with plenty of activity from our members….

Members News

Sheffield Print Fair
Caroline Quincey and Maude Tricker are taking part in the Sheffield Print Fair at the Millenium Galleries as part of the ‘Year of Making’ on the 9th July, 10am-4pm . A total of 36 printmakers are taking part.

Lady Manners Fair
Members Anthea Stephenson, Jan Beautyman and Katherine Rhodes took part in the Lady Manners Art and Craft Fair, Bakewell on 14th-15th May, run by the school PTA. The event was well-organised and was enjoyed by all; the group sold some work and took the opportunity tell visitors about Sheffield Printmakers and also recruited a new member, Rachel Wilson.

Winter Garden Pop-Up Shop

Eleven SP members took part in the ‘Pop up’ Shop at the Winter Garden/Millenium Galleries at the end of May, following on from Jill Ray, who exhibited for 3 weeks. This was very successful, and the exhibitors took over £1100 over the week. Visitors were very impressed and surprised at the variety of the work. It is possible that the group will be able to do this again next year. Jenny Bowden reported that this worked really well as a more co-operative venture with people making a clear commitment early on and then being actively involved in the setting up and running of the event, a good model for future ventures.

Renishaw Hall sketching
Jenny Boden reports that this was a great trip, with 9 members turning up on the day. She had to give numbers to Renishaw as the group sought permission for this trip, so it did require an element of commitment- thanks for those who came along. Some people are returning on Friday 17th June to do more sketching, meeting in the café at 10.30, or find them scattered around the garden if you arrive later. You can bring folding chairs, the café serves nice food or bring a picnic. Look at the Renishaw website to find details of entry fee/directions etc. The aim is to produce a print (or more) from this visit which we can then exhibit. if you want to be part of the Renishaw group contact Jenny Bowden.
Look forward to our next, gorgeous sunny, warm visit…..

Small Print International
SP members Viv Howe, Sarah Sharp, Peter Knight and Judith Duvall all had a print selected for the contemporary Small Print International hosted by Leicester Print Workshop. There were over 630 prints submitted from artists all over the world and they selected 150 prints by 93 artists, so the group did very well, submitting a variety of techniques in digital, lithography, etching and collagraph. The exhibition is travelling around for 18 months and is currently at Attenborough Arts in Leicester.

International Miniprint Biennale 2016
This is taking part at the Seacourt Centre for Contemporary Printmaking in Bangor, N.Ireland.
Linda Green has entered this exhibition, which people might like to bear in mind for the future.

Open up Sheffield
Members taking part this May included Rosemary Watson, Katherine Rhodes, Frances Lewis, Cath Dunn and Sarah Sharpe.

Derbyshire Open Arts
Trudy Roe and Geraldine Smith both took part this year 28th-30th May.

Mandy Payne
Mandy Payne had a successful exhibition of work at the Cupola Gallery, Sheffield. She has also had work accepted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London, the Contemporary British Painting Prize and the John Moores Painting Prize this year.

Kafoutine Project
The Kafoutine Project run by Trevor Pollard has had a very successful year with various exhibitions throughout the uk and with over sixty prints sold by Senegal artists recently, generating over £3,000 for their village.

SP Print Fair, Bakewell Town Hall
Eight members took part in this event on the 4th June. Another Fair is taking place on the 19th November.
Event to come….

Wirksworth Festival
SP members exhibiting at Wirksworth Festival this year from 9th -25th September include Geraldine Smith, Jenny Bowden, Cath Dunn and Peter Knight.

Shared Practice Group
The shared practice group have had some very good sessions this year, discussing ‘how to get your work out there’, a very interesting practical papermaking session at Cath’s house and demonstration of paper cutting using a ‘Silhouette’ paper cutter at Caroline’s house.

Committee changes
We are very pleased that Mike Pye has joined the group as our new treasurer. Sally Brookes has stepped down from the committee, and Rosemary Watson has stepped down from general exhibitions organization, but is continuing to organise the Bakewell Print exhibition and Fairs. We thank both of them for their work on the committee- any new committee members would be most welcome.

New Banner
The group has paid for a new ‘pull up’ banner with our logo and information, designed by Trevor Pollard, which can be used at SP events to enhance publicity.
